Any tips for making internet faster?

I have Qwest internet and I often play xbox live. I run a Linksys WRT54G with DD-WRT firmware for wireless internet. When I play online, I usually have the worst connection in the lobby, and it becomes very annoying after awhile. Even when I try to watch Netflix on my 360 it can take 5 minutes to load a single TV show and has constant interruptions. It would be nice to know if there is anything I can do to affect the speed of my internet. Changing my ISP is out of the question since my dad pays for it and he could care less about how bad my connection on xbox live is.
